Dissemination

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona)

How would you assess the transferability of the re-design approach you employed to new subject areas or disciplines?

Our Learning CD was designed using characters that would be of interest to traditional college-age students. The art and gaming were all designed to increase students desire to spend more time on task, and thereby learn more psychology. Now the question becomes, could we transfer what we’ve learned from the CD into short interactive modules that can be accessed via the Internet. We anticipate that this transfer of skills would be of most interest to other disciplines. The learning principles utilized in the design would work in any field. Our random test generator has already been used by other disciplines, such as health and kinesiology. The disciplines most amenable to the transfer of many of our approaches are those whose disciplines, to some extent, are based on psychology, for example, business management, consumer behavior, classroom management, etc.

How are you disseminating the re-design among your colleagues?

Our dissemination has been confined to our campus, and people are interested and excited by our results. Faculty who have offered technology-enhanced courses are wanting to adapt many of our tools and desire training to do so. We plan to disseminate results in regional and national meetings during the coming year.
