Brigham Young University

Will the redesign be sustained now that the grant period is over?

BYU has not fully implemented their redesign plan. The goal is to do so in the winter 2004 semester. Many of the early instructors have now graduated and newer instructors have been trained from the beginning to teach the redesigned course. This greater familiarity with the course among newer instructors is reflected in a more positive attitude toward the course and in greater willingness to use the course materials. This group of beginning instructors has now become the more experienced group and can help train the new group of instructors in the fall. The team also found that each set of new instructors had noticeably higher levels of comfort and familiarity with computing technologies.

Through participation in the program, BYU has gained experience in large course redesign. The University is committed to realizing learning and efficiency gains in other high-enrolling courses and has allocated resources for additional large course redesign projects.
